St. Jean de Brébeuf is the most famous of a group of heroic Jesuit missionaries to the Huron (Wendat) and Iroquois nations. His incredible physical strength was exceeded by his personal holiness and gentle personality. He was tortured and martyred in 1649 in the Huron village of Saint Ignace, near present day Midland, Ontario. Brébeuf Wilderness Expeditions is named after him.
